The Club has been taking baby steps towards a full-blown basketball and soccer league. For the past two summers, the Club has conducted basketball leagues within its Summer Camp Program. The Club is currently conducting a “Developmental League,” where members are instructed by Canoga Park High School athletes on the fundamentals of basketball. “I think it’s a great idea for the Club to have older members coach the younger kids. Everybody needs a big brother/sister in their life”, says Franky, Canoga Park freshmen student.

Soccer continues to evolve from its beginning as an extension of Blythe Elementary’s soccer clinic. The soccer program now consists of an 8-10 and 11-13 year-old squad. Both teams have had great successes with impressive trophies to show for it. Team members have been rewarded for their commitment, dedication, and sportsmanship by attending Chivas and Galaxy functions where they had the opportunity of walking the professional athletes onto the field. “It was awesome walking on the field where people were yelling and blowing horns. We were given autographs and T-shirts for helping out the players” says Nate, a Club team member.

Juan Carlos Arias, the Club's athletic coordinator is constantly organizing tournaments between the Club’s satellite sites where the Reseda/Blythe Elementary Gauntlet has brought about a fun-filled rivalry. Entering teams in LA Parks & Recreation and Boys & Girls Club tournaments are part of the Club’s efforts to keep these dedicated athletes occupied and out of trouble. Approximately 60-70 boys and girls participate in both basketball and soccer programs.
